FAQ
A. You can drop it into any of our partner stores and we’ll be by in a few weeks to pick it up. Please check under donating a bike to find the nearest location.
Q. What kind of bikes do you take?
A. We can put almost everything to use. Sturdy hybrids, mountain bikes and kids bikes are the ones we are able to send to Africa. Others are distributed here to refugee organisations and some are passed on to provide an extra revenue stream for the shipping expenses.
Q. Do you take bikes in any condition - do they have to be in working order?
A. In short - no, they don’t have to be working but we prefer working or easily fixable bikes. Most bikes can either be fixed at the workshop that is established at the destination, others may be useful for parts. The one thing that will mean we can’t use it is excessive rust or a broken frame.
Q. Can you pick up a bike from my place?
A. Unfortunately as a completely volunteer run organisation we don’t have to resources to pick bikes up from locations other than the Bicycle Super Stores. If you have many bikes - say 10 or more then we may be able to schedule a pick up when doing our general collection run.
Q. I want to help - how can I volunteer?
A. Thank you for your support. We have regular need of volunteers to help us collect and prep and pack bikes. If you contact the nearest B4H chapter to you we can add you to our volunteer list and we be in touch when we need some extra hands.
Q. What about closer to home?
A. Part of the conversation from the beginning has been around how we apply the same or similar model that works so well in Africa in Australia, The Pacific and Asia. We continue to research the issue and source partners for these projects and hope to soon be establishing projects closer to home.
