The First Collection

March 23, 2009

The First Bicycles For Humanity collection was over the weekend. We had an army of brilliant volunteers, packed hundreds of bikes into the shipping container, learnt a huge amount and had a lot of fun.

Andy, our loading leader worked tirelessly packing hundreds of bikes, hundreds of paniers and bikes bags from Knog and tyres, tools and other gear. We were hugely grateful to Bill Bretherton of HumanPowered who helped over the whole weekend as well as all the other volunteers. Great to see such an enthusiastic and committed bunch  coming together for a great cause - there were kids bike races involving grown men, fixie tricks, impromptu acrobatics, new connections and friendships made and our first container off to a flying start.

The great news is we still have space for even more bikes so if you missed the collection this weekend just past - fear not - we’ll be there on Sunday 29th March from 1-5pm. Look forward to seeing you there.
